Art-Net: The Art-Net protocol is a communication standard used in the entertainment and lighting industries to transmit large amounts of DMX512 lighting control data over standard Ethernet networks (like LANs or Wi-Fi). It acts as a digital bridge to carry multiple DMX “universes” across a single cable.
Critical Parameter / Parameters: are those parameters / functions of the Arena Media Server, which need particular attention, because are strictly involved with the video output resolution of the project, and which therefore need to be adjusted on a case-by-case basis, to have manageable, fluid and adequate behaviors for the visual surfaces of the show. (Led Walls, Projection Screens).
Those are: X-Y Position, Crop Range, Keystone Range, which are greatly involved with the specific display resolution of the project.
DMX: Knew as DMX Protocol, (Digital Multiplex, officially DMX512) is the universal digital communication protocol used to control stage lighting, dimmers, and special effects.
It allows lighting consoles (the master) to send unidirectional commands—like brightness, color, and movement—to receiving fixtures (the slaves) using a standardized language.
The instruments on this site allow to integrate and manage Resolume Arena Media Server with Stage Ligthting, or alone by a DMX Console powerfully, with easy.
Fixture / Fixtures: It is the controllable device, by a DMX Control Desk (Console), to be controlled and programmed in the shows execution, mainly referred to moving heads, laser beam, in this case, due to the same expected behavior, we’ll refer to fixtures meaning Arena Media Server Layers.
Layer / Layers: in this project, is our “Fixture”.
It is the modular Arena software brick to be managed. The Layer is, item which consents to arrange and manage the media (Audio and Video), per scale position and other features to be routed to a LED wall or to be projected onto a physical surface, to obtain the request scenographic effects, to information purpose or other.
Media Server: It is a software, running on a PC, to arrange and manage the output of dozen of medias (Video and Audio), often organized in layers, as a graphical software, but mainly focused on live media output, in show context, instead of graphic modification or production.
The managing of the output towards the appropriate surfaces (LED walls or video projections), is done by different GUI, or instrument, automated or not, according on different needeings.
Arena Is the Resolume Media Server, others are Catalyst, Whatch-Out, Disguise, Chamsys, Pixera, etc…
Personality / Personalities: The specific “patch” software code, loadable on the specific DMX Console, to align the control surface with the Fixture (Ex. Moving heads, media server layers ex…), to control and program those, using the Console features, in a show execution.
In common technical jargon, the two terms (Personality and Fixture) are often used as synonymous.
Processing Engine: It is the Intelligent “site based” Software for Media Server Operators, which helps to produce the specific Arena DMX Shortcuts of many layers as you need, by processing the RAW file, produced by the Arena Media Server, through the compiling of a single layer.
Just compile, the Arena first layer shortcuts, upload the result file in the Processing Engine, to obtain a new file, containing the Shortcuts for the number of Layers you need.
Shortcut / Shortcuts: It is a Media server generated code which links the Media Server functions and parameters with external controllers transforming the Layers into DMX-controllable devices.
In this project, Shortcut are the core.
Those are the specific software code, generated by the Media Server software, trough a process explained in this site, which allows Arena Media Server to be driven by many physical o software controllers (Midi, Osc, Keyboards o DMX Console).
The site is, mainly, focused on DMX Controllers which offer the most complex, powerful real time control of many fixtures through the dynamic and programmable management of thousands of fixtures single parameters.
Shortcuts Compiling Mode
“This Layer” Mode: It is one of the Compiling Shortcuts method, offered by Resolume Arena to obtain the DMX Shortcuts to drive Arena Media Server, by different control surfaces and protocols.
It has Some specific features, to be understood, to obtain the desired control results.
““By Position” Mode: It is another Compiling Shortcuts method offered by Resolume Arena to obtain the DMX Shortcuts to drive Arena Media Server, by different control surfaces and protocols.

8 Bit Channel: Using 8 bits will mean that the movement function of a fixture can have 256 steps (0-255). in Media Server it is enough to drive discrete parameters or absolute ” 0% –> 100% ” parameters (Opacity, Color etc…)
16 Bit Channel: Using 16 bits will mean that the movement function of a fixture can have 65536 steps, it came from the use of two combined channels at once (256×256=65536 steps).
First channel drive the coarse behavior of a function, the second channel drive the fine behavior, it is useful for visual parameters, to adjust millimeter-accurate the position or other visual function in HD and Ultra HD display.
Some Console output the first channel, separate from the second, until the 16 Bit function is request, others output both channels alternatively at once, causing in the Arena Shortcuts Compiling procedure, some errors on the field channel correct attribution.
